Total alkalinity meter for seawater
CONTROS HydroFIA ® TA Total Alkalinity Meter is an airborne measuring instrument used to determine the total alkalinity of seawater. CONTROS HydroFIA ® The TA total alkalinity measuring instrument can be used for continuous monitoring of surface seawater or for precise measurement of individual samples. It can be easily integrated into existing automatic measurement systems, such as volunteer observation ships and Ferrybox water ecological monitoring stations.
Total alkalinity TA
Total alkalinity or its buffering capacity is an important parameter in the field of environmental science, which refers to the total amount of substances in water that can neutralize strong acids, i.e., substances that can accept proton H+. The total alkalinity index can be applied in many scientific fields such as ocean acidification and carbonate chemistry research, biogeochemical process monitoring, aquaculture/fishery, pore water analysis, etc.
working principle
Inject a certain amount of hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution into an appropriate amount of seawater sample to acidify the sample after passing through the defoamer. After the sample is acidified, the CO2 produced is removed by a new TOUGH permeable membrane in the defoamer. The sample enters an open potentiometric titrator, and then the pH value of the sample is measured using bromocresol green indicator and visible absorption spectroscopy. The obtained pH value is used together with salinity and temperature data to calculate the total alkalinity of the sample.
This measurement method complies with the Chinese marine industry standard HY/T 197-2015.
